Flower walls are a show-stopping addition to any event, but as any floral professional knows, they are a true labor of love. As your wholesale floral partner, we know you experience both challenges and triumphs bringing floral visions to life. To ensure our products continue to meet your needs, we rolled up our sleeves and built a flower wall ourselves. We’re excited to share a detailed breakdown of the process, showcasing the products and techniques that turned this stunning backdrop into reality. Our goal is to help inform your future purchasing decisions. Pioneer’s silk flowers and artificial greenery are designed to elevate your professional floral artistry. We’re eager to share our experience and pass on our knowledge to support your success. The information in this article is based entirley on the creation of the flower wall pictured below.

How big should a flower wall be?
We crafted a stunning flower wall, measuring 6 feet wide and 7 feet tall, designed to be the perfect photo backdrop. We applied the same principles used by event planners, who allocate 24 inches per place setting, but with a focus on posing rather than dining—no need for the elbow room required for eating! The 6-foot width comfortably accommodates groups of four, making it ideal for wedding guests posing with the newlyweds, families, or couples attending a dance. The 7-foot height creates a fully immersive floral experience, allowing photographers to capture breathtaking, frame-filling shots.

The Process
Crafting an artificial flower wall, stem by stem, might make you feel like a tiny mouse stitching Cinderella's gown. The repetitive preparation and placement come together to create something truly magical—designed for a grand moment.
Here’s what we did:
Time and Teamwork
Consider the size of your team and the complexity of the design when estimating project time. For us, a design team of 2–3 individuals was ideal. Having 'too many cooks in the kitchen' can complicate the process, so a small, focused team often works best. That said, setting up an assembly line of people to prep floral materials at each step made a significant difference.
How long did it take us to build our flower wall? With a team of two people, this project required approximately 16 hours of focused work over 2.5 days.
How many flowers did it take?
Full disclosure: this flower wall features 1,837 silk blooms, primarily composed of cabbage roses in three colors. It includes 143 bushes of cabbage roses (yielding 1,287 flower heads), along with 40 bushes of peonies and 30 bushes of ranunculus for added fullness.
Here is the complete recipe:

Construction
Please note: we are floral importers, not engineers! Our incredible team constructed a sturdy and stable floral wall frame, but please prioritize safety and stability when building your own structure.
For our project, we created two panels, each measuring 3 feet by 7 feet. The frame consisted of a simple yet sturdy 2x4 border with a horizontal support beam, all covered in durable plastic mesh. As many event designers know, a trip to the local home improvement store is often the first step in building custom armatures! Don’t forget essentials like a ladder and work gloves.
