When my wife and I started Pioneer 44 years ago, I went to my supplier and asked him how much it would cost to buy a line of silk flowers. He explained how many flowers I would need, and how many colors. Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford it, nor did we have the space! We were working out of the trunk of our car and the attic of our rented house! So I asked what he had in just one color. “Green plants”, he answered. So that’s what I bought. Green plants. Lots of green plants...

As time went on, our company grew, and I never lost sight of wanting the full range of color I knew our customers needed. True, vibrant colors that matched real flowers in addition to trend-setting shades.

One day, I was speaking with a particularly enthusiastic silk flower salesman. In a very emphatic voice he said, “DAVID! COLOR is EVERYTHING!” It hit home that now was the time we could bring this to our customers. And that is when colored florals entered our line.

When we began importing permanent botanicals, a whole new world was opened to us – the option to create our own custom colors and color collections instead of just selecting from what the factories presented to us. “COLOR is EVERYTHING” took on a whole new meaning, and it became a core belief for our company.

Now, for more than a decade we’ve been importing our own permanent botanicals. We have developed hundreds of different colors, many of which are exclusive to Pioneer.

Each season we develop new collections featuring the latest colors. At least a year in advance, trend research begins. Once trends are identified, we determine our collections and develop the colors that will help our customers to have the products they want, in the colors they need.

Getting the “right” color on silk flowers can be quite a challenge. Color samples fly back and forth around the world multiple times. And (when there is not a pandemic) my family and I travel extensively, in order to bring the best colors to our customers.

Working with the color artists at the factories is an experience one will not quickly forget. These talented individuals have shown us an art form that we feel privileged to be a part of.

Why do we do this? Because COLOR is EVERYTHING! Faux florals are an artistic representation of the beauty found in nature and we strive to match that.
