How To Use Our Shred Calculator

How To Use Our Shred Calculator

Crinkle cut decorative shred is measured in pounds, but we understand this isn’t a unit of measure that’s easy to understand. This material, after all, is naturally springy and airy, so to imagine it by weight is a difficult concept.

To help you understand how much to order, our website features a shred calculator in the Inspiration & Education section. Simply envision the box or basket you are using, and how many boxes and baskets you’ll be filling this season. Then input the numbers and it generates a recommendation.

You’ll notice our shred calculator is extremely user friendly!

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

First, enter the length, width and height of your box.

Don’t worry -- it doesn’t matter what you call the length, width and height! Just get the measurements across, high and deep in any order.

Don’t have your basket/box nearby? Here are a few common items to help you estimate:

  • A paper clip is just less than 1.5 inches long.
  • An iPhone is just less than 6 inches long.
  • A ring box is typically less than 2” x 2” x 2”.
  • A men’s shirt box is typically 15” long, 9” wide and 2” deep.
  • A typical women’s shoebox is 12” long, 7” wide and 4” deep.

Now that you’ve entered your length, width and height, our tool has automatically given you a number called your Basket Volume. You’ll see this in the first bright pink box.

Now, enter the number of baskets or boxes you want to fill.

We’ve now automatically calculated your total shred volume.

But what you really want to know is the final number – how much to buy! That is the final number, labeled “Total Pounds of Shred to Order.”

Shred can be purchased in either 10 or 40 pound boxes. Sometimes you have to determine if you will have a little more or a little less than what you need.

We hope you find this shred calculator helpful this gift season!
