Video: How To: Use a Shrink Cap for a Flat Basket

In this video demonstration lead by Sue Huelsman AIFD, learn how to apply a shrink cap to flat gift basket. Shrink caps help keep gift basket contents safe and secure, even during shipping, making these handy items an essential for a professional presentation.

The process is easy. Sue has already inserted the basket into the cap to prepare for the video. She then begins to fold the wrap under the basket - first on the sealed side and then on each end. She suggests getting the wrap tucked under nice and tightly. For the open end, she folds one flap beneath the other.

The next step is to do a quick pre-shrink. Sue takes a standard head gun and begins working her way around the entire bottom of the basket before gradually moving up the sides. A few quick passes over the top helps the wrap embrace the contents to prevent them from shifting.

Now that the product is secure, Sue flips the entire basket over to reveal the bottom. She pulls in any excess and uses a small amount of tape to keep everything nice and tight. Applying the heat gun gives the bottom plenty of shrink to eliminate any remaining excess.

Sue then returns the basket to its upright position and does a final circulation with the heat gun to fully secure the wrap around the basket and contents.

Adding a simple bow tidies the presentation and serves as a fun way to enhance the theme of the contents inside. You can wrap the ribbon at an angle, go around straight, or get as creative as you want.
