Even teens who have never purchased flowers before understand one thing about prom: the corsage needs to go with the dress.
To some clients, that means perfectly matching colors and textures. To others, that means accenting the dress with a complementary color. While still another group want the most neutral corsage possible because they are still developing a sense of accessorizing and style.
As you, the designer, coach your client through the process of picking a corsage, you can get a head start by knowing the fabrics to expect in this year’s dresses. Then, you can show clients different takes on each – using corsages as a strong fashion statement or a subtle accessory.
Metallic Fabrics: This can mean sequins, beaded, lamé, but it’s any shade that catches the light. Gold and silver, but also metallic black, blue, pink…Dresses will be in all different silhouettes, but capturing the shine is key.

Sheer Fabrics: Airy and Ethereal, you’ll see tulle either in a single flowy layer or making a full, ruffled skirt. Embellished illusion layers will often contain pearls or rhinestones.

Satin Fabric: Sleek and special, teens love satin to mark the occasion. You’ll see it in short and long dresses and a rainbow of their favorite colors. The use of satin signifies formality to a young customer because it’s typically not worn at another time of year.
