One of the easiest ways to build a floral design is by using a wreath as your base. Why? There are so many reasons!
It may be simpler for your designers to work in a wreath base than other floral mechanics. When designers want to have flowers drape over the edge of a container and soften the line, it can be nice to work in a form that sits atop the container rather than working from inside of it. For example, the 14” Spanish moss wreath can balance on top of the Winnie compote creating this beautiful design.

Sometimes you have a client who has an heirloom container, ideal for flowers. However, they may have concerns about getting it dirty, blemished, and it may not be watertight for fresh flowers. Plus, they may not even bring it to your shop to design in!
This is the ideal occasion to work with a wreath base as your mechanic and permanent botanicals. The lifelike silk flowers make customers happy and dropping it inside or resting it on top of their cherished vessel will be lightweight and worry free.
Wreath bases also help create:
Imagine setting up the workstations in your shop. A case of wreath bases is ready to design out-of-the-box and made of lifelike material you don’t need to disguise. This means you’re ready to start with flower insertions. Eliminate labor intensive steps of prepping your mechanics when you start with a wreath base. This is especially helpful when doing many of the same design for event centerpieces and other production-style work.
Plus, when designs are complete, they are easy to load on trays or in crates to transport to your venue. Keeping your containers separate during transport means items stay in their bubble wrap or remain stacked until you get to the venue. This takes up less space in your vehicle and reduces risk of breakage. When you arrive, drop the designed wreath base on each container, and you’re done!
You can also use this method in your shop. Separating floral designs in wreath bases with a variety of containers gives your customers the ability to “create” their own design. Do they gravitate toward the classic white stone or modern metal? Having a mix-and-match opportunity in your shop displays helps them to decide and provides the personalization everyone is looking for today.
