What is a Peppy Pastel?

It’s a Pick-Me-Up - During the economic downturn after 9/11 Leonard Lauder, son of Estee Lauder, coined the term “lipstick index.” It meant that consumers were going to buy themselves a little pick-me-up even in a hard time. A relatively inexpensive purchase made people feel better.

Only today it’s not lipstick – it’s other modes of self-care. Your customers want a boost. They want to send some cheer to friends and family. And they want it to pop.

This translates to the Peppy Pastels collection. These vivid colors turn up the volume of the traditionally sweet hues to really make a statement.

It’s a Whimsical Combination of Color, An Escape

The color palette also harkens to American sportswear (think Lily Pulitzer) because, if you can’t go to the resort, you have to bring it to you.

Floral gift purchases can be much like fast-fashion – the style is on-trend now. They are a fun, in-the-moment purchase.  While fashion blogs are full of the pastel trend, they aren’t the muted shades of past. Periwinkle, lavender and pink rage. Pulling unexpected colors together.

We also know that trends aren’t “one-and-done,” they build from year to year. Classic Blue, the Pantone color of the year in 2020, carries over, as blue continues to surge. And with one of the 2021 colors, Illuminating (yellow), it pairs for a joyful mix.

And with these bold combinations, we push the boundaries with colors that might not even be found in nature. The idea that a perfectly periwinkle bloom exists ignites the imagination in all of us. Adults can indulge in a world where French blue and bubble gum pink flowers grow rampant. The touch of whimsy makes a gift that transports us.

It’s Socially Acceptable

Not only is self-care a trend that’s here to stay (see our previous blog), Peppy Pastels are colors that makes them perfect for sharing on social media.

Just as cupcakes, donuts and macarons surged in popularity because their colorful appearance made them perfect for sharing, so does this collection. Delicate flowers and mixes of color get views. Good for your business, and good for customers sharing the love.
