How to Build Meadow Aisle

How to Build Meadow Aisle

To event designers, sometimes a blank slate provides a world of opportunity, but the reality of building a free-standing floral install can be complex.  With outdoor events more popular than ever, you may be tasked to not just provide floral décor, but build the event space with walls and aisles of flowers and greens. Event designers must look at the open outdoor space and establish a logical flow for guests, separating guests from the wedding party and building the traffic pattern guests can understand. The event designer takes an open field and sees the path.

And then you have to build it!

Sizable floral installations take a lot of floral product, and starting with permanent botanicals that look realistic may be your first consideration. You know you’ll have the right size, shape and structure when you start with fabric or wired flower.

For some customers, layering greenery garlands to outline the way will be the harmonious simplicity they desire.

For customers who want to feel they are following the path of a secret garden, more lush layers and height are needed to create a meadow aisle.

Starting with a faux garland directly on the ground anchors your design in natural beauty without having to worry about its durability or water source.

Next, large containers or event buckets turned upside down provides height and stability – much needed on a grassy area or sandy beach! Covering these elements is easy when using silk flowers that are made to drape naturally, such as wisteria and hanging boxwood. The flat surface of the bucket base will also create a tabletop that you can then stack a stone urn or other container to build a second tier of florals or greens.

Plant stands are also a way to get height and an easy set up. Try clustering them, weaving garlands through them and more.

Because meadow aisles aren’t requested only outdoors, event designers often have the task of bringing the outdoors in, creating a meadow aisle in a ceremony venue or ballroom.

In this case, the ears of Chiavari chairs provides the perfect place to hang flowers. Wristlets are just the way to do this! The elastic is ready to hook on the chair, and the plastic design disk is ready to add your flowers to drape from the top rail of the chair to the floor. Plus, because there are so many jewelry-looking wristlets today, you don’t have to disguise this mechanic.

If you’re working with bench or pew seating. Hanging a mini wreath on the end of each provides a symmetrical punctuation of floral all the way down the aisle.

We know meadow aisles are one of the most requested floral installations, brides envision lush layers of florals. By using faux flowers and strong mechanics, you’ll save yourself some stress!
