We know the name of the game in prom business is personalization. More important than being “on trend” is helping your teen client express themselves. The fashion, jewelry, hairstyle and manicure they chose are all personal expressions.
If you’re attending senior prom this year, you were born in 2004! Meet the Emma’s, Madison’s, Emily’s, Kaitlyn’s, Hailey’s, Olivia’s, and Isabella’s. Jacob, Aidan, Ethan, Ryan, Matthew, Michael and Tyler may be the one coming to purchase the corsage for her and need your help. (Or it may be mom walking in your shop -- You know how it goes in your market!)

The number one reason the dress is picked? It’s color. They choose their favorite color for their dress.
It’s about THEM, personally. Rarely is someone reinventing their style for prom – it’s a formal way to spotlight their uniqueness.
So while personal style is never-ending, by having three areas covered, you can personalize and flex to fit a variety of clients.
Bold. Whether your client is into heavy metal or looking like a popstar, the girl who isn’t afraid to make a statement is going to need a corsage to match. So, get ready for a complete rainbow this year. Bright and neon colors are in. Cuffs will provide the ultimate versatility and modern edge.
If her dress isn’t bold, she’s likely going with just a touch of color. Pastels are popular – the hues you find in nature, like orchid, blush and buttercup yellow.
Earthy, bohemian, romantic… whatever you call this girl, she is into colors found in nature and fabrics that are light and airy. Her favorite album is T. Swift Folklore, orders oak milk lattes, and has a short nude gel manicure. In fact, this generation knows what a succulent is because they’re adorned on their notebooks and t-shirts. While your teen client usually doesn’t know to ask for a stephanotis or gypsophilia when it comes to prom, we bet they know, and are drawn to, mini succulents! Provide her the cute detail and delicate look she is going for. Bitty berries are also a favorite when you show how this texture and color can be used. Or a butterfly can take the place of a flower. While you’ll see a spectrum of style with this client, up the glamour with pearls. This is the gemstone of choice for this client, not a rhinestone.

There is certainly a glamour girl who is going to love rhinestones and sequins, however.
Sparkle queen. Prom is the opportunity to dawn the sequins. Whether they are head to toe glitter or opt for a bit of shimmer, show you can add a little extra magic with glittery options. In home and fashion design we are noting the new 20s are pulling Gatsby-like details like fringe and beading. We won’t be surprised to see some prom clients embrace the chance to go all out.
Remember, you may win a client for life if they have a good experience at age 18. Make sure they feel heard and love their end product.
