Succeed by Understanding Emerging Wedding Trends

As we enter another peak wedding season, and also peak wedding planning season, you’ll be meeting with brides and grooms influenced by today’s trends. Knowing what’s hot will help you provide solutions to match their dream -- and allow you to prepare in advance. When we talk trends, we do it so you, the designers, can consider how to tackle the mechanics, supplies, and profitability of bringing these ideas to life for couples.

Most couples know to start with colors. Choosing colors extends far beyond just what color bridesmaids will wear! Help couples understand this with an in-store representation of containers, silk flowers and ribbon. Helping couples understand color is beyond apparel by using materials in your shop will hit home for the majority of us who learn visually.

We expect to see an embracing of bold, vibrant colors through 2023.

First, Terracotta. Pinterest articulates the trend as: “Rust married Burnt orange will make the wedding guest list this year.”

Purple is also extremely popular. And choosing purple means all shades, almost creating an ombré effect. Nearly every shade of purple is currently being embraced.

And after blush with greenery has reigned for nearly a decade, blush-colored flowers in a monochromatic colorway is appealing right now, with the various pink shades working together.

Overall, rich color is making a splash, and when couples embrace a color, it will likely be a monochromatic statement.

Neutrals will always be a classic element used in wedding décor. For couples who can’t commit to a bold or bright color, remind them neutrals and simplicity are always your friend. Plus, it leaves the door open to adding pops of color along the way. They may decide to add a colored filler flower, accent to boutonnieres,  or colored container for their primarily white or ivory floral designs.

Setting color palettes and flower selection is also key because fewer and fewer bridal parties have matching bridesmaids’ dresses. Dresses aren’t the same color let alone style. That means their bouquets don’t have to be exact matches either! Professional floral designers can win big here by guiding the process of how to create a cohesive statement and embrace individuality. Using permanent botanicals can really be a designer’s friend in this case because you can guarantee the size, shape and/or color that can be the common thread throughout.

Truly, any color can work with any season but remind couples they don’t want to completely dismiss the season of their wedding. Consider the mood, and the reason they chose summer, spring, fall or winter for their wedding. The natural elements are likely a part of the choice. Because you’re using lifelike silk flowers (aren’t you? ☺) You don’t have to worry about what’s in bloom, but you should consider, for example, that everyone knows it’s January and sunflowers aren’t blooming right now.

When it comes to the bride, bouquet size is trending smaller and more delicate, going hand-in-hand with more romantic wedding dresses in fashion.

What’s not smaller are your other wedding floral arrangements. More sweeping arrangements are becoming a must-have. This style places an emphasis on greenery surrounding the venue, making it look like plants and flowers are cascading down, lining the stairs, down your aisle… for a more natural and abundant look.

While these are the aesthetics most popular today, professional floral designers and event planners know if the wedding doesn’t reflect the couple’s personal taste and personality, it’s not a success. Prepare for these most-requested elements but remember with strong supply partners and preparation, you can make any trend come to life!
